JusB
JusB is a charity which aims to help young people particularly in their teenage years and provide them with a brighter future. They are based in Bromley and operate through a youth centre as well as outreach work in the local community. JusB started in 2003 after a local youth worker identified the growing need of young people around her for somewhere to go on evenings and week-ends. Rachel Archer is now the CEO of JusB and has high ambitions for the charity which sees about a 1,000 young people a year.In July 2006 Pilotlight began working with JusB after the charity had expressed a wish to move beyond its start-up phase. While it had been successful JusB felt there was a lot of potential which it wasn’t tapping into. The Pilotlight team helped JusB to focus on its core activities and objectivities and ensured the two matched up. The team also encouraged JusB to write an income strategy and be more focused with it’s trustees. They supported Rachel Archer as she made the professional change from youth worker to CEO and encouraged her to focus on leadership rather than front-line work.
The results have been impressive and JusB continues to grow. Income from one fundraising stream has has doubled and the charity has a clearer idea of where it is going. They have just taken on three new members of staff. Rachel Archer says;
“We had the potential to move beyond an infant charity to being something more substantial and Pilotlight helped us at the right time to take the next step…..we moved much quicker with Pilotlight’s help and we are much more professional and have an edge of authority which wasn’t there before.”
JusB has launched a new mentoring project and is increasing the amount of access young people have to their music studio, which has proved very popular. One of the people who use the centre is teenager Tommy Scully;
“It is really good here, it has helped me get ahead with something I wanted to do.”
Pilotlight continues to work with JusB and has high hopes for its future.
