Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, became a charity in 1980. Based a mile and a half out of Leeds city centre, it works with children, schools and with adults with learning disabilities from communities across Leeds who would not normally get the chance to experience and learn about horticulture, agriculture, conservation and sustainability.

A particular focus is working with individuals from some of the most financially deprived neighbourhoods in the city. An important strand of its work is offering an alternative education offer for young people to help them back into a mainstream school setting. A number of Forest Schools working with parents and toddlers run at the Farm. It is also an outdoor visitor attraction open to the general public seven days a week over 363 days of the year.
