13 October World Mental Health Day

14 September 2007

Celebrate World Mental Health Day on Saturday 13th October 2007 with Cooltan Arts. Cooltan Arts is celebrating ten years of work providing free creative activities for people experiencing mental distress with a sponsored walk in Southwark which coincides with October’s World Mental Health Day.  Put your best foot forward, shod with your most comfortable walking shoes and come in fancy dress (optional) this October. Join the Cooltan Arts participants and their supporters on Saturday 13th October 2007 for a circular jolly starting at the Maudsley Hospital SE5 via Tate Modern SE1.

They need to raise funds for the project and aim to raise at least £10,000, with 100 per cent of donations going directly towards workshops. You can help them make a big difference to the services they provide to current and prospective participants.

Cooltan Arts is a participant-led organisation which exists to inspire the well-being, resourcefulness and participation of marginalised people experiencing mental distress here in south London. Over the years the service has helped provide a much needed space, enabling people to regain their aspirations. People have returned to work and college: some have gone on to win Southwark citizen of the year awards.

To join the walk, go to their website, www.cooltanarts.org.uk. You’ll also find work made by the participants, includes the website itself, and the information needed for you to make a contribution to the cause. Please make any cheques payable to Cooltan Arts.
