Fraud Seminar

9 October 2007

Pilotlight hosted a seminar for its partner charities on 19 September on the subject of Fraud in Charities.

The seminar was presented by Keilah Towers of Chartered Accountants, Accounting for Charities Ltd, who specialise in providing accounting and advisory services to small and medium-sized enterprises in the not-for-profit sector (www.accounting4charities.co.uk).

Keilah shocked attendees by explaining that 75% of the UK population regard themselves as dishonest to some degree and that charities, by their nature, can be particularly prone to fraudulent activity. She then explored practical ways of minimising fraud risk in the sector and was able to address attendees particular concerns.
