Pilotlight in the Press: In May Pilotlight featured in Society Guardian’s Public Eye in a piece written by Chief Executive Fiona Halton on the challenges facing smaller charities, and Pilotlight Scotland's Graeme Powrie contributed to the The Journal Online, The Law Society of Scotland's member publication, to introduce our programme to its readers. In June Pilotlight Scotland was the focus of a feature in Scotland on Sunday highlighting volunteering skills. Pilotlight was also featured in this month's Philanthropy UK newsletter discussing the importance of measuring the impact of the voluntary sector.
Pilotlight Scotland L&D Event: In May Pilotlight Scotland held an event for prospective Pilotlighters at the offices of Anderson Strathern. Invited guests were treated to an interactive presentation about what makes great leaders and how participating in the Pilotlight model could be an effective leadership development tool. Guest speaker Mike Fiszer, Director of Leadership Programmes at the Edinburgh Institute, presented to an audience which consisted of 43 of Scotland’s most senior and influential business figures. Pilotlight Scotland is delighted to report the event was very well received. As a result, three new Pilotlighters have joined and we have seen an increase in demand for further information on Pilotlight.
Business Scene supports launch of Pilotlight Cymru: We would like to thank Allan Blair Beaton II, the Regional Director of Business Scene in South Wales, for supporting the launch of Pilotlight Cymru. Business Scene was set up to bring business people together so they can find out about events in their area, as well as to manage their own events. It has developed into a successful online business community and directory, with 12,000 subscribers in Wales and 320,000 across the UK. Business Scene also runs Connections events, and Allan graciously offered Pilotlight Cymru a stand at their Cardiff event on Thursday 16th July.
Disability LIB conference: Pilotlight participated in Disability LIB's conference on 9th May, which aimed to facilitate and debate DPO (Disabled People's Organisation) challenges, opportunities and current issues; promote Disability LIB capacity building activities and resources; and raise the profile and positive value of DPOs. Helen Lang, Senior Project Manager at Pilotlight London, was pleased to facilitate a workshop about capacity building in collaboration with Debra Schiman of People First at the conference. Helen says, "This conference was a unique opportunity for Pilotlight to use its experience in working with DPOs to discuss challenges facing the sector, and the tools we have found most useful to enable organisations to make best use of the resources and skills they have available."
